What equipment do you need to watch television programs on a computer
monitor?
Several internal PCI cards and external USB-based products
let you watch television on your computer monitor. But these require your
computer to be on.
If you have limited space and you want your computer to do double duty,
there are products that will let you watch television on your monitor
without booting up the PC.
AV Toolbox's XGA Theater ($129 direct) is an easy solution for LCD and
CRT monitors. Simply connect your display to the XGA Theater, which then
connects to your PC (see the diagram below). The XGA Theater sends the
TV signal directly to the screen; you can easily toggle to the computer
view.
The XGA Theater can be set to an excellent 1,024-by-768 resolution. It
includes VGA and cable connectors, RCA jacks, and S-Video inputs, and
it supports both NTSC and PAL signals. Rounding out the package, the XGA
Theater comes with a built-in TV tuner and remote control. (AV Toolbox
